The Kingsway Summer Fayre.
You see I started this blog to keep track of the many things that interest me. I will probably fidle around with the display and format a fair bit until it starts pulling in viewers and generating advertising bucks for me.
I went to a summer fayre the other day (Kingsway, Derby NHS site) and had a lot of thoughts about it because your stood behind a table for the duration. It would be impossible not to have thoughts about something like that.
Simple elements could be broken down into a list:
There are at least 5 types of stall:
* individuals representing themselves. This could also include groups of companies and families and friends
* charities (RSPCA etc)
* companies selling products
* Selling food ( cakes or burgers) and drink.
* Services
* Health care ( inlcuding medicines, remedies, phramacuetucaks.
* Other kitchen based items of a non perishable nature.
* Old favourite fairground elements: coconut shy, tombola, general raffle.
The most commonly selling items for us were CDs then books.
These very much come into their own in the light of Spotify and any number of kindle or IPADs or viewing devices being peddled by The mobile phone networks.
Most useful items were the table our stock rested on was good. Having chairs meant we could sit down while drinking our numerous cups of tea. the heavy ikea candles didn't sell but were priceless paper weights. We definitely had too many sheets of paper which needed to be pinned down continuously. I am a visual artist and was trying to sell prints on basic sheets of paper which were a massive hassle. It would have been much better to have them hanging up on a display wall of some kind like what you get in the Tate. Except the Tate charge for entry and yearly membership. the most interesting question was ' how do you make books?' 'cause I had my own one there. it is very easy though. Anyone with almost any kind of camera can take the photos on it and add them to flickr. Flickr can then take them and make them printable as prints via Snapfish, I would print hundreds more books if I could afford to do it and had the motivation.
