How to make a free website

I've been suprising a lot of people at how easy this is. It deosn't result in a particularly complicated website but it does result in something that's very flexible.

You won't need to code if you don't want to. If you do want to I'll add a supplement on were coding can work.

So you want a website but don't know where to start?

Begin by putting this into Google:

'free websites.'

And pick the link that comes up for GBBL. This is the British governments collaboration with numerous companies aimed at getting the Brish Public up and running with a web site. Once you've put your details through you'll have a site and this will last for at least 2 years until you have to pay for the domain name and all that stuff. You can at that point either pay to keep the first name you began with or ditch the whole service, it's up to you so when you begin, aim for a name you can use for a long time, printing costs of business cards are an expensive pain in the ass.

The vehicle moving the site along is called Google sites. For this reason it's good to use google products wherever you can because Google own a lot of helpful archiving tools that you can then take samples off and add to your own. For instance Picasa is owned by google and is a very efficient photo storage platform. Anything you add to Piacasa can then be added to your site whether you want to add one picture or a slide show.

It worth noting that any flash animation you add to the site will not be visible in Safari because Safari is an Apple browser and Apple don't like Flash mainly because it's cumbersome. But you can still add it somewhere and it will still work in Firefox and chrome.
