It's worth knowing about the K Foundation.
They burnt a million pounds when it failed to sell for the prize put at half that:
The joke being that if you were to buy the piece called 10,000 (four piles of mint fifties nailed to a plank of salvaged skirting board) for the asking price of 5,000 (ono), you stand to pocket five grand if you destroy the art and spend the money. Alternatively, hang it on your wall and see the cash value eroded by inflation while the artistic value soars. It's the sale of the century![19]
Rachel Whitread won £20,000 for the Turner Prize for the best work of art in 1993.
The K foundation awarded her £40,000 for making the worst work of art in 1993.
Initially she declined the offer but on finding out that it would just be incinerated she accepted it giving £30,000 to artists needing financial resources and £10,000 to the Charity Shelter
They released some singles claiming to be entirely without musical skills as The KLF but the singles did well and reached No.1 in the UK charts.
I leave you with an edited clip , you can look up the full part of it but at 40+ Minutes long I'll stick with the short one...
